The Tribunal hears appeals, applications, complaints, and disputes under various Ontario’s agriculture and agri‑food legislations.

Normal Farm PracticesApplications about whether an agricultural activity is a normal farm practice under the Farming and Food Production Protection Act, 1998.

These cases may involve concerns about:
  • Noise, odour, dust, or other impacts
  • Municipal by-laws affecting farm operations
Submit the application form with supporting information.
DrainageAppeals related to municipal drainage projects and decisions affecting agricultural land.

These may include:
  • Engineer’s reports
  • Drainage assessments and costs
  • Municipal council decisions
A Notice of Appeal must be filed through the municipal clerk.
Regulated CommodityAppeals from decisions of Marketing Boards, the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission, or Directors under the Farm Products Marketing Act and Milk Act.

These may involve:
  • Quota or production decisions
  • Licensing and compliance matters
  • Penalties or exemptions
Submit a written request for a hearing with a copy of the decision.
Licensing and RegulatoryAppeals of licensing or enforcement decisions under various statutes, including:
  • Food Safety and Quality Act
  • Animal Health Act
  • Livestock-related statutes
  • Grains Act
Submit a written appeal outlining:
  • The decision being challenged
  • Reasons for the appeal
  • The outcome requested
Agricultural Products InsuranceDisputes between AgriCorp and insured producers.

These may involve:
  • Eligibility for coverage
  • Claims and loss assessments
  • Payment decisions
Submit a written appeal describing the decision, reasons, and requested outcome.
Farm Registration and FundingApplications related to:
  • Farm organization accreditation
  • Special funding eligibility
  • Religious exemptions
Submit the applicable application form. A hearing may be required in some cases.
Assessment ActAppeals regarding eligibility for the Farm Property Class tax rate.

These matters must be referred to the Tribunal by the Assessment Review Board.
Referral must be made through the Assessment Review Board.
Farm Implements ActDisputes between purchasers and suppliers of farm equipment.

These may involve:
  • Warranty or repair issues
  • Dealer or distributor agreements
  • Contractual obligations
Mediation may be required before requesting a hearing.
Commodity Board Member ConductApplications concerning the conduct or eligibility of commodity board members.Submit an application with details and supporting documentation.
Agricultural Employees Protection Act ComplaintsComplaints regarding employee rights in agricultural workplaces.Submit a written complaint outlining the issue and relevant details.
